Amplify: Historic Drop in Crime
The FBI’s latest Quarterly Unified Crime Report, collecting data from January 2024-March 2024, shows a significant decrease in crime from the same period last year:
Violent crime decreased by 15.2 percent;
Murder decreased by 26.4 percent;
Rape decreased by 25.7 percent;
Robbery decreased by 17.8 percent;
Aggravated assault decreased by 12.5 percent;
Property crime decreased by 15.1 percent.
Attorney General Merrick Garland called the decline “historic:”
“This data makes clear that last year’s historic decline in violent crime is continuing. This continued historic decline in homicides does not represent abstract statistics. It represents people whose lives were saved — people who are still here to see their children grow up, to work toward fulfilling their dreams, and to contribute to their communities.”
In fact violent crime is near a 50-year low!
Why it matters:
Every life is precious, and the decline in murders and other serious crimes is good for all of us.
It’s also a sign that crimes of desperation are on the decline as the Biden economy continues to make life better for everyday Americans.
Voters are under the false impression that crime is rising nationally. That is a false perception fueled by disinformation campaigns stoking fear.
